Cosmeceuticals and Nutricosmetics

Cosmeceuticals are products that are applied topically and nutricosmetics if taken orally general health and beauty.  The FDA does not currently recognize these terms as a category. These are generally accepted terms for marketing purposes. They are classified and regulated as a drug or a cosmetic product based on their therapeutic or general health claims.

What are Cosmeceuticals & Nutricosmetics?

Cosmeceutical is a term for a cosmetic product that have pharmaceutical-type ingredients included in its formulation or claims of medicinal properties. These products are not required to go through the rigorous testing process that a pharmaceutical product does, but its safety and compliance with any advertising claims such as medical or drug-like benefits thought to be gained through their inclusion of biologically active ingredients must still be verified. 

The most common ingredients in cosmeceuticals are Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Botanical Lipids & Oils, Green Tea, Grape Seed, Pomegranate, Various Teas, Peptides, Retinoids, Polyphenols, Hydroxy Acids, and Antioxidants
